Thursday Thirteen #3–13 things I did in an attempt to get organized today
Filed in Thursday ThirteenI’m actually “supposed” to be finishing off a programming project, and I will–in fact I did the hardest part on Tuesday. But today when I sat down that isn’t what mood I was in: I was in a rare “get organized” mood. Here are some of the things I did to take advantage of that.
- On Tuesday night I read a lot about dealing with email, and it inspired me. Today I dealt with all but eight emails in my main inbox, and many of the emails in the Raven Blog ones as well. That is to say, many of them were place-markers for jobs to be done, so I did the jobs. It felt good. It’s a bit like the guy who has to roll the rock to the top of the hill only to have it roll down again, but hey. Good.
- I read a lot of newsletters, etc. then deleted them.
- I also created some new filters to get rid of posts that I’m not interested in.
- I went through my overloaded feed reader and created folders.
- Then, I started moving some of the blogs into the folders (Bikers, RVers, Inspirational, etc.) so that I can read them in groups as the mood takes me. Whooee! I was really on a roll.
- I also deleted about 30 feeds, mostly inactive blogs or blogs where I wasn’t really interested in the topic or which I just never seemed to read.
- I dug out my file cards and scattered them around. I read recently about someone who keeps file cards wherever she goes so that she can take notes, and then they are in a handy-dandy format for filing in case I need to look something up later (or I can transfer them to computer). This is sort of like having notebooks in your saddlebags, beside the bed, down in the office, in your jacket pocket, etc. only more portable. And cheaper.
- I put some books in envelopes and addressed them.
- I added more emails to my “address” folder ready to transcribe them into my address book.
- I got caught up on some more blog comments.
- I did not get caught up in reading blogs (much) beyond what I needed to do to file them.
- And then I went and read a book, because obviously it’s efficient to read one’s library books without needing to renew them or pay fines. Right? Right. ;)
- And it looks as if I might actually be in bed before midnight too. Wow.

I have a number of folders in my reader: art, books, family, news, op-ed, sundry, tt, and tv
Happy TT.

That IS getting organized. I’m impressed. Love that last one, too.

I have to do all those things and then, maybe, just maybe I’ll be on the road to being organized! Thanks for visiting my TT post.

I never get enough e-mail to need to organize them unless you count spam.

I managed to finish my foldering, so now I can focus on things that will help my blogging, and then read the other feeds when I have spare time. :)

Good luck, Mary! I found that organizing my feeds has made a big difference.

Nicholas: I don’t need to organize my email–it’s the feeds that I was putting into folders.
