It's just a hologram

Filed in Blog

Tonight Don was watching a show about holograms, and a bunch of memories came flooding back. I was ten when I saw Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back for the first time, and in so doing I saw my first hologram. Of course, Princess Leia appealing for help to Obi-Wan Kenobi was hardly a real hologram, but right there began my life-long love of these amazing creations.

There’s a fantastic little town in Cornwall called Boscastle. It has a witches’ museum, new age shops, a youth hostel right down by the water’s edge, and supplies of Cornish liqueur mead. Let’s not forget that it’s also stunningly beautiful. ;)

But one year, it also had an exhibit of holography. It was a bit pricey, and we all balked at going in. But in we went regardless, and spent a fantastic hour looking at these fascinating works of art, their three-dimensional images burned in bright orange and red and lime green.

These days, holograms are commonplace. There’s even one on my green card! But their magic has not worn off, and I still think that maybe one day it would be neat to own one, or to have holographic telephones. ;)
