Do purple grasses come from purple rain?
Filed in Blog, Daily Image
I took the Woodson Bridge nature trail and found meadows awash with these beautiful natural grasses. The purplish color is a sheer delight and most unexpected. I could have sat and watched them for hours.

Those look like foxtails. (And the internet confirms that foxtails can come in a purple color.) They’re a pain in the ass in the summer because they cling to everything, and drill in. This makes them particularly nasty with animals, because they can just keep going through fur, skin, and into interior organs.
We’ve learned to check animals closely after they’ve been outside in the dry summer months.
