Not swimmingly at all

Filed in Blog

Today I almost bought a swimsuit. I had one picked out, but unfortunately I missed that the rack in question had two types of costume on it: the one that cost $24 and the one that cost $45. Guess which one I picked?

$45 is a week’s food: I can’t justify the expense, period. Besides, the whole concept just sticks in my craw. No matter how flattering (and it was), I refuse to pay $45 for such a flimsy little garment. And it was down from $80! How can they justify that price? It wasn’t even a specialty “plus” sized swimsuit; it was in the regular ol’ ladies’ section of a big department store.

I chose that particular one because it had a little skirt, and I hate having the top of my legs show. I figured that while $24 was still ludicrous, it was about a month’s gym membership and would ultimately give me better value for money.

There were dozens of different styles, but I don’t do bikinis, I don’t trust separates not to separate, and many of the regular suits are just way too revealing. I’m no prude, but I’m not into showing the rest of the world my cleavage–and there are parts of me where I’d especially like to avoid sunburn. ;)

I guess I’ll carry on looking, but I can’t tell you how much I hate the shopping around.

Does anyone else get mad at the price of things like this?

Not so much the price but I hate shopping and trying things on! I get so exhausted not to find anything that fits quite right that mostly I come home with nothing. I only shop when I need something. Hate department stores. If I find something that I think looks good on, I buy it no matter the price. I justify it because I only shop once a year for a couple of necessary items. Good luck in your suit persuit. I haven’t worn one in years.

I hear you! And those changing room lights are so incredibly harsh, too. :(

I probably won’t be getting one now…not sure we’ll be in a place with a pool much longer.
