Idle curiosity: How often do you clean your computer keyboard?
Filed in BlogLately, the keys to my laptop have been sticking. I also noticed that there were cat hairs and other interesting substances jutting out from under the keys. Today I grabbed a knife and drew it along the rows of keys, bringing with it enough fur to cover the leg of my largest cat. Amazing, really. They look so innocent.
Oddly, the keyboards don’t seem to be sticking any more.
So, my questions to you, because I’m nosey, are:
- How often do you clean your keyboard?
- How do you do it?
Link love to all who respond by next Monday. Feel free to pass the word out. :)

I clean mine anytime I’m stuck on hold on the phone. Which is to say, I have no schedule.
I first turn it upside down and shake it, then I unfold a paper clip and run it left to right and top to bottom of the rows.

I don’t clean my keyboard nearly as often as I should, which is to say, almost never. Fortunately for my keyboard’s cleanliness, I had to send my laptop in for service some time ago, and they ended up replacing the keyboard during the coarse of getting at its innards. So, it got cleaned for me! As for my non-laptop keyboard, I only clean it rarely, but I usually take an alcohol wipe and wipe the keys, sometimes sticking it on the end of something to try and get it between the keys. Hubby takes alcohol wipes with him and cleans the keyboards in the computer lab before he uses their computers. They tend to be pretty disgusting.

Maybe once a year. Usually I “clean” it by turning it upside down and shaking any crumbs that might have gotten in there.

Having also three cats… I clean the cat fuzz out of my keyboard about once a week with a half-inch paintbrush.

Cool! It’s amazing the stuff that gets inside those critters. ;)
Thanks all for answering. :)
