Dear Paris, Idaho

Filed in Blog

Okay, I’m sure you’re a very nice little town. In fact, I know you’re a little town because you have a roughly five by five street grid, replete with National Register properties which I am entering just now–my kind of snarfari.

But I did have a question.

Main Street and Center Street I can live with.

But who on earth came up with:
(east-west)
West 2nd Street North and East 2nd Street North
West 1st Street North and East 2nd Street North
West 1st Street South and East 1st Street South
West 2nd Street South and East 2nd Street South

(north-south)
2nd Street West
North 1st Street West and South 1st Street West
North 2nd Street East and South 2nd Street East
North 3rd Street East

and right in the middle of it all…Fielding Road.

I mean, come on. You’re in Idaho, a beautiful part of the world. You could have picked presidents, animals, trees, flowers, or famous explorers.

Were your town planners’ imaginations out to lunch?

PS Okay, I forgive you. You have a candy factory on the National Register.

The town’s name is Paris and they didn’t pick some of the best street names in the world? Trocadero, Saint Germain, Lafayette… Why, but I’d be proud and pleased to live on Champs Street.

They may be great spudsters, but these Idahovians aren’t much chop on imagination.

I bet that none of the locals actually use the street names. Asking for directions could be an adventure!
