Another bad smoke day

The smoke was particularly bad these last few days. What I don’t grok is why the sun, which is a horrible raw red in real life, comes out as so white on these shots. But you can see the lack of air quality…

I imagine the camera’s white balance setting is causing your sun to not be so red. Assuming it’s on automatic, it probably sees the sun, assumes it should be white, and adjusts the color of the photo accordingly. Check your manual to see if you can manually set the white balance - there are usually different settings for different light sources (outdoor, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, etc…)
