4/49 Why CCF

Filed in Blog

Why CCF…Well, I have been a child sponsor for around ten years now. I sponsor three kids–Yaimi in Mexico, who is 15; Sherman in Dominica, who is 16; and Rene in Brazil, who is 13. (Last year it was four, but Ditaya’s family left the area for somewhere that they could get work, and as such the sponsorship came to an end.)

The money I donate goes to the community and helps with such things as education, fresh water, and an overall goal of lifting the community a little further out of poverty and towards self-sufficiency. While I do correspond with each of these kids–a wonderful experience I might add–I very much prefer that the money is pooled to do “the sum of the parts is greater than the individual” or whatever that phrase is.

On a personal level the sponsorships and letters I exchange with these children are hugely satisfying. And I hear over and over again how much the sponsorships mean to both the family and to the community in general. The charity is very efficient–80% is for projects, 10% for fundraising and 10% for admin–and has been around forever. It’s a way I have of making a difference. :)

Do you know what role religion plays in their charity work? Their website doesn’t talk about it too much, so I’m curious.

Anyway, it looks like they do great work in the communities they work with, and I’ll be happy to sponsor you with your blogging efforts!

I had a long comment and they keep getting eaten. I’ll try again.

I just wanted to say I love this charity and we have sponsored kids through it too. I’ll tell about my experience when I see that my computer is going to behave and stop making my comments vanish!

BR: While they’re definitely founded in Christianity, neither the sponsors nor the projects are expected to be. It’s just a case of they go where they think they can make a difference. I know they do their work in secular fashion as opposed to “this is a mission so the help comes with strings attached” if that makes sense.

Cool! :) I remember your saying last year…each of your kids was responsible for another kid, right?
