We left Trinity on Tuesday after a pleasant morning spent with Kerry, shopping, running errands and even going out to lunch at what will hitherto be a benchmark for great sandwich shops–the TriniDeli. The journey down was so-so, mostly in the dark, with excitement of the day seeing gas less than $4 a gallon when we got down the mountain. Unfortunately after we gave up our spot in a rest area around 8pm, we couldn’t find a single empty spot and ended up arriving in Lodi at 5 the next morning. Then we slept for a bit.

We took care of shed business and started poking through boxes, tossing stuff and sorting it and making fewer boxes. I’m not finding it particularly emotional, other than a sense of not really wanting to be down here. I used up most of the emotion on the “real” move last year; this is just a big wad of loose ends to tie up.

I kind of understand now how my parents felt about moving up to Scotland. San Joaquin county might be rural, but Trinity is a whole order of magnitude wilder and more to our tastes.

The next full day after our arrival I met WanderingRaleighite, the #1 Markeroon visiting from North Carolina, and we had a really grand snarfari together out in Stockton. He had lots of ideas, requests and such for the site, some of which are already in the works and some of which are intriguing and worthy of chin-stroking.

But most of the week has been boxes, clearing and dust. I imagine we will get the first one cleared by the end of August, or thereabouts. It’s very hot, but at least it’s staying under a hundred for now. I’m finding it very hard to live life outside the boxes, though–things like taking care of bills, website maintenance and even work.

I look forward to going back home.
