Filed in BlogJust call us itchy and scratchy!
Between the peeling sunburn, multiple mosquito bites and just plain heat and sweat, it seems that I spend most of my time clawing at my itching skin. Did you know that a stiff-bristled hairbrush is a great way to reach your back? See, you learn something new every day. ;)
But it’s still been a great week! We got back online on Monday, and the big news is that I am now doing some work for a startup company which will most likely take care of our rent for the next year. I have long wanted to branch out into corporate writing and I hope this will be the start of a cascade that takes care of the basics and leaves me space for other less formal branches of writing. Either way, it’s exciting.
I’ve been making some reasonably big strides in getting caught up after my long radio silence. I’m working on simple things like getting the Markeroni backlog under control and getting ahead with my photos of the day (you might have noticed ;) But we’ve been exploring, too, and even tackled the north face of the laundry, which was particularly fun riding two up. I went on a couple of walks and ended up chatting to a professional bird surveyor keeping tabs on the progress of the Trinity River project which aims to revert it back to its more natural state.
I’ve lost another pound in weight. I’m not sure it’s the sugarlessness so much as the extra exercise and lack of a store within a few miles. I don’t care–I’m a pound lighter. ;)
We helped our landlady and boyfriend reroute their electric fence, too, so that the horses can go to pasture. Our landlady is going above and beyond and has invited us to dinner, pizza and today’s awesome adventure, a boat trip down stunning Trinity Lake. (The picnic was our treat, and fetching it this morning made a grand total of two times that I have taken the bike out solo since I moved here.) I even got to ride on a quad bike for the first time.
Can you believe that next week is the Summer Solstice?
