Filed in BlogI’m starting to be very glad for the photo-of-the-day project, Project 366, or whatever you might call it. The pictures I take replace an increasingly flaky memory. I don’t like this getting old malarkey, and I know it’s just going to get worse. One of these days I’m going to go look at this blog and ask “Who is this Gracie person anyway?” and then it’ll all be over, I tell ya.
At the sanctuary they held a birthday party for everyone. Absolutely made my day. There were dozens of cakes and prettily decorated tables. I know it wasn’t for me but it felt like it was and quite possibly that was the idea. I like the sanctuary very much. Talked to some interesting people and had a lot of fun.
All week we’ve been pivoting between wind/cold and roasting heat. We all know which way the balance will tilt but it’s still new and weird.
I sent about three million a dozen emails off to people with RV pads. (An RV pad is not a big comforter. It is a place to park one’s RV.) Some are incapable of answering questions. Some want me to call them. Some are incredibly helpful and answer all my questions. Oddly, I lean towards such people. ;) The net is now being cast further and further afield as I find different ways to search for that elusive cheap patch of concrete where we can park our RV in peace.
On Monday Don and I took an impromptu ride to Valley Springs. I wanted to try out Hawg Dawgs and so we did. Yummy, and I also found a buttload of tax forms at the post office there, now that it’s way too late. Go figure. Unfortunately my bike’s gears are showing signs of acting up, jamming like they did last year. That seems to have tentatively cleared up but I’m nervous. And will probably have to do some mechanical work…boo, hiss.
I’ve been making some progress on catching up blog posts and photos of the day. I also started a motorcycle carnival because it was about time someone did. I might have done more had it not been for my stupid battery. Long story short after a nice time with Amber in Stockton the bike wouldn’t start.
The battery was flat and all the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t get it working. We got embroiled in this huge, ridiculous, infuriating shaggy dog tale. I was fighting mad on Tuesday, especially when it rained, but on Wednesday I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, all dragon-shaped.
Thursday I spent half the day with the Activated Storytellers and they absolutely and completely rocked.
Friday, I was going to do the asparagus festival with Amber but she was not well and in the end I was kind of relieved because it was hot and I was bothered and it gave me some time to catch my breath. Saturday, it was Book Crossing and one of the people there bought my book. Might be the first one I have sold this year, I’m not sure, but it made my day when she paid in Where’s George two dollar bills :)
The central duck pond was full of goslings and ducklings. The cute! The cute! It burns me!
Just as I got back Don was leaving to get rid of his stir-craziness. We rode to the Columnes River reserve and did the wetland trail, or as much as I could manage in the steaming heat. I would die in the tropics. Don’t ever invite me to anything in the Deep South during the summer months ’cause otherwise you’ll find out what molten raven looks like, and I’ve been watching too much CSI lately.
Bizarrely, I still somehow contrived to read two novels this week. I haven’t read much of anything and then I got really embroiled in Nora Roberts. One of the reasons I was so mad at the bike saga was that I just wanted to read the darn novels.
I’m kind of hoping for a week without anything big this week, like no exploding batteries or tax returns. Pretty please with cherries on top?
