30 March 2008
Filed in BlogWell that’s that, then. March pretty much over and done with.
I had a nightmare about being chased by things that wouldn’t leave me alone. I figured this was a kick up the patootie from my subconscious about all the things I’d been procrastinating on, and as of tonight I have done about a dozen things I have been putting off.
These included sitting in voicemail jail for almost thirty minutes to verify that no, we don’t owe old house tax on the now defunct previous home, the tax return prep (I pretty much had to rebuild the last five months from scratch because QuickBooks corrupted and refuses to reinstall), catching up on my photos of the day, cleaning the vile mold off the shower curtain, catching up hugely on the Markeroni backlog (not that you can tell any more)…
You get the idea. I feel much lighter, suddenly, and haven’t been chased by any more annoying nocturnal robots.
On Monday I went in search of cheap Easter candy and found, to my amazement, a real Easter egg i.e. a large hollow chocolate egg with things inside (in this case it was a Willy Wonka egg with incredibly sour little duck-shaped candies). All, naturally, are now history and not close to being as satisfying as real British chocolate. Tuesday brought with it the now regular snarfari with Amber, adding a few more to the collection of Stockton landmarks. The travel talk that followed, about living and working in China was, frankly, dull.
Tuesday night was not dull, with a chopper coming in to carry people off from a nasty accident on the highway. Apparently it was SUV vs. semi. I got to meet a bunch of my neighbors who came out to gawk at the same time. After that I got stuck into my collection of over-achievements, as noted above.
I popped my head up above water long enough to attend the Book Crossing meetup on Saturday. It was awesome, with nearly a dozen folk showing up including two from Pleasanton who knew Puss Reboots :) Came home with way too many books but I left two in the wild today and will dump off a bunch more on next Tuesday’s snarfari. I also exchanged my Doc Marten’s with absolutely no fuss so am now breaking them in with next to no pain. Yay for no pain!
Other adventures this week: My camera emitted a little puff of smoke as it took a group shot at the meetup, but still appears to work just fine. We stocked up on veggies at Al and Peg’s, which feels like a destination in itself. I received the check for my last article and it was rather more than I expected because they used more pictures of mine than I expected. Amber introduced me to the marvelous Armenian hot dogs in Stockton in an old warehouse converted to a mall. JR doesn’t leak all the time, just much of the time (it’s definitely an improvement!)

Happy January 31st, and happy April!
