Filed in BlogIt’s been quite the week.
Last Sunday I finally made it back to the sanctuary after two weeks missed. I found out that their “membership classes” are a twice a year event and I missed them, so no official joining the church for another six months. I was disappointed at first but have come to conclude that it’s too soon to consider joining in any case. I’m still finding my feet and there’s this little bohemian part of me that doesn’t want a label, UU or otherwise. Another part of me wants a spiritual “home”, but that could just as well end up being anywhere there’s trees.
So, life goes on.
Last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday were speech days. On Sunday I met Amber to talk about the talk she was giving about Markeroni and to figure out what part I would be doing. On Monday we went on snarfari to get more local photographs. It was a hoot. She’d heard that there were two plaques from E Clampus Vitus on campus but hadn’t been able to find them. We went into the big tower structure to ask and the receptionist suggested we try the library. We tried the library but the librarian, while intrigued, didn’t know. Then I laughed–the plaque was on the library’s wall. There was an ECV plaques book in the collection which she got out for us, and I recognized the other plaque as being one that had been in the original tower. Talk about a crazy goose chase!
Tuesday was the talk. I did the introduction/what-the-heck-is-Markeroni part and Amber did the rest. It went down well and raised several loud chuckles. I’m sort of semi-committed to doing a talk next season, or a backup talk if somebody drops out. The woman wants me to do Scotland but I want to do Nevada, and it’s my talk so I’ll get my own way. ;)
After that I was kind of burned out. We scored a label printer from Freecycle, and cleaned up cat vomit. All three cats have been barfing like crazy, though JR’s tend to be hairballs more than pure upchuck. The same cannot be said of the girls.
JR is off his meds now and after ten days or so we take him for a little biopsy to see if he’s beaten the infection yet. I hope that’s the end of this stupid sickness but I don’t have a good feeling about it.
Friday was my birthday. Don took me out for lunch and ice cream, then afterwards we stocked up on veggies at our nice veggie stand. He baked me a cake and I got to not do anything all day, which was grand and I would like to order at least one birthday every week from now on. ;)
I didn’t know what I wanted as a birthday present so I’ve taken a rain check on that. I’m really off stuff. I don’t want any more.
Work-wise, I’ve been on a data entry jag spurred on by two things: it’s brainless enough that I can manage it right now, and I realized that at six counties a day the National Register can be finished up within a year. Data entry “completion” is in fact within sight. It’s rather neat.
Today it was back to the sanctuary on a particularly windy day. By the time I came home the gusts must’ve been at least 30 mph. I bought my first pair of Dr. Martens which I am now (painfully) breaking in. These will serve as walking and riding boots. Don also needs boots so when he gets his it will be new boot central and we will be hobbling around painfully until either our feet or the footwear submits. I hate buying new shoes and find shoe shops mildly upsetting in a way that I just can’t explain in words.
I hope your week was good. I hope this next week I will be a little more able to write and create.
