Filed in BlogYay, it’s March! My birthday month. :)
Last Sunday we were in the middle of a storm with lashing rain and wind. Not great bike weather, so I stayed indoors and missed (literally and figuratively) going to the sanctuary. By the end of Sunday it was clearing up and the weather’s been delicious–seventy degrees on some days, a balmy peaceful kind of heat that, were it to never get any warmer, would do me just fine.
Excitement of the week was getting published again, in Nevada Magazine. I think it’s going to be a very long time into my career before my immediate reaction to seeing my writing and photographs in print will be anything other than the urge to dance around the RV, going “Squee.” I’m so professional!
Also, the conundrum surrounding FEINs vs SSNs has been solved: my accountant had been sending me emails but none of them actually arrived. :( So, I can take care of that soon, which leaves the weird house tax leftovers that we may or may not owe, and then the remainder of the 2007 accounting so that I can get the tax return done. In other words, the things-hanging-over-head list is slowly going away.
On Tuesday, I attended the first of an “armchair traveler” lecture series at the Delta College, with Amber. This first talk was about hand-weaving and hand-dying in East Timor and that part of the world. Fascinating stuff. Then they announced that they needed a replacement speaker for the 11th of March, and Amber, who’d already been preparing, volunteered to speak about Markeroni. Woot!
I went for a couple of rides this week. The first ride was supposed to be a snarfari but I didn’t want to stop. I did find my way to a fantastic out-of-the-way produce stand, though, and that will be my supplier for the rest of my time in Lodi. Then I explored many little country lanes where the fresh growth is so bright green it seems unreal, the trees are budding or even in blossom, and saw a llama. Yes, a llama. It was very fluffy.
The next day I actually did the snarfing part, got lost, and found a neat-looking nature reserve that will be the subject of further explorations. I am now at, oh, 163 snarfs for Raven’s Quest.
On Thursday Raven’s RV was a featured blog at Thursday Thirteen. Yay!
Other adventures: Don and I went to Moo Moo’s restaurant for a burger. Going in there was a bit like walking inside a giant tub of Ben & Jerry’s (only square). Cow puns abounded. The burger was nice but not worth the restaurant prices.
Also, as of Monday, Beastie and I now have done 30,000 miles together. Wow.
I spent Friday and Saturday signing up for social media sites and finding my way around them. There are some interesting…characters. Yes, that’s a good word–I can sense a blog post coming on. I also took my laptop to Starbuck’s for the first time and did a bunch of writing there. I’d have done more if I could’ve found a power socket.
I posted my first video blog. It didn’t work out. So I’ll have to learn more. ;)
Have a great week, all!
