Raven’s Range
Blather around a virtual range

I’m not going to do a Blog Stew this week, mostly because I haven’t had much time to read other blogs. I’m over the hump of my project, though, so I expect to be back on more of a blogging schedule next week.

Don and I just returned from a ride downtown. It’s deeply cold, but I was going stir-crazy and needed to get out. I’m at the stage in my programming now when all the interesting stuff is done and I’m left with the crazy-making remnants: the bugs, the refinements, and the sense that if I let myself I’ll fiddle with this for months and never actually make it public.

I’ve been thinking about how to balance my projects because I’m well aware that programming and finessing can become all-consuming. I found my old to-do list and realized that there aren’t any more big projects to do at this time, just lots of little ones, so I can pick a couple of those each month and that shouldn’t overly affect anything. This is a good thing.

Today is three months since we bought the RV, and three months since I started the accompanying blog, Raven’s RV. It’s scary how fast the time has gone by, and how little I miss having a larger house full of clutter. ;)

As for last week, well, much of it has been spent in geek mode, as previously noted. I put tags back in at Markeroni, did most of the background work for categories, and all I have to do now is write a program to display the categories and put in a few little extra bits and bobs like a tag search engine. I also started consolidating about 50 little programs into about 5 little programs, now that I know how. At the end of this year I might actually have a sustainable website.

On Thursday we made a flying visit to the Bay Area. Our mailbox was once again stuffed to bursting, but the good news is that we do now have tags for the RV. Also, I just received a note from the post office saying that one of our mailboxes is ready, so I should be able to change the forwarding as of tomorrow.

We took JR back to the vet on Friday; he has been struggling to urinate and it looks like he might be on antibiotics for a long time. That’s okay. They’re not cheap, but it’s still cheaper than surgery and better than seeing him suffer. He goes back tomorrow just to make sure that the antibiotics are starting to work, but I can already tell that he’s a happier cat. All living things emit energy fields, and JR’s is softer and less jangling than it was. (What? You didn’t know that I was an aging hippy? You haven’t been paying close enough attention.)

In other news, the RV still works. ;)

Had to get some St. John’s Wort today. (Yes, I know it clashes with certain things and no, I don’t take any of those certain things.) I’ve been having this low-level anxiety and depression for a couple of weeks now without any basis in reality, and I’m really sick of feeling like crying when there’s really nothing, not even spilt milk, to cry about. The supplements should help.

I guess that’s it. Have a good week, everyone!
