18/49 Reinventing a movie

Filed in Blog

Buffra wanted to know:

If you could recast any movie and re-do it (I thought about this because MTV is talking about redoing The Rocky Horror Picture Show), what would it be and who would be your choices for the new main characters. (You don’t have to limit yourself to current actors, if you don’t want to.)

The one that springs to mind is Queen of the Damned, the Anne Rice novel that was completely butchered. For a start I’d make it stick to the plot! And the original actors from Interview with the Vampire would work just as well here, as they had an energy that worked together really well. OK, one couldn’t use Kirsten Dunst as her character bought it, but Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were surprisingly wonderful…Akasha would have to be someone regal and classic, and I sort of think of the lady who played Arwen in LOTR for that…and then there was the guardian vampire, the keeper of the family tree (Lady Heather from CSI), and the twins…The old vampire who hung around with the guardian could be Yul Brinner. That would work. ;)

There would have to be lots of really good rock music. ;)

In other news I can’t believe anyone is thinking of redoing Rocky Horror. What the *heck*?

Hooray for Lady Heather from CSI! I can’t say I’ve read any Anne Rice or seen the movies though…

The first couple, Interview w/ the Vampire and Lestat are excellent. Queen of the Damned isn’t bad, but the next two are outright weird/not necessarily worth it. The movie of Interview was great, but of Q of the D was lousy.
