Public holidays mess up my already fragile grasp on what day it is. With a deadline fast approaching, I find myself in that peculiar holiday frame of mind which means I don’t do the things I should and spend more time playing.

JR is sick again. I don’t know what we are going to do. It’s probably the same problem as before, and likely the “best” solution would be to give him the surgery which changes his boy plumbing into girl plumbing, but it’s going to be hard to spend another $1500 to plump down on that, especially since it’s not a sure thing. (And yes, the last round of this stupid illness of his cost well over $2000 and led us to become disillusioned with three vets.)

It’s also very hard to see the poor cat lying around, listless and in pain. I also wish he would quit becoming sick at the weekend when the only vets available are exortionists. This cat who follows me, the feeding human, every time I go into the bathroom (where the food is served) has not eaten since yesterday lunchtime.

As for the week, well, I decided to start a huge project called “writing a manual of Markeroni and consolidating the mess of programs into something that makes sense” followed by “why don’t I give myself a full frontal lobotomy instead.” I started with 1904 programs and am currently at 1841. I have been working on my admin pages first and today began a complete rewrite of the logging landmarks code which has the added benefit of most likely making the site more user-friendly.

Because I have been spending so much time at the computer, I also feel as though I am about to explode, messily and with a great deal of noise. And because I am programming-creative mode, my writing-creative mode is significantly dampened.

Other events…I rode down to Redding for two reasons: To run errands, and to remind myself that I could, in fact, ride longer distances. I felt much better after I got back. I attended the Fourth of July parade which was a hoot, and I also went with Kerry and some other locals down to the Lewiston winery’s 2nd birthday celebration. I split a bar of organic lavender chocolate four ways and yes, it was worth it, sugar notwithstanding. Oh boy, was it worth it. ;)

I started learning how to walk Kerry’s horse so that we can look after it when she is away, got to hold a week-old kid that I subsequently named Petal, and am otherwise doing pretty well.

The mosquitos seem to have eased off a little. :)

I’m so sorry about your cat. Is there an organization there that will help defray the cost of spay/neuter? I think I’ve heard of such. I don’t think they would operate on a sick cat, though. He may need antibiotics to get him well and a special diet to keep him well. My cat eats Science Diet CD, and I can only get it at the vet’s, and it’s more expensive than what’s available at grocery stores.

JR’s been on CD since last year, when he first got sick. He’s already fixed, but the op would basically stop his male plumbing from getting blocked by crystals by turning it into female plumbing, and the last quote we got was for $900.

It wouldn’t be ethical for us to go through non-profits for this; we do have money in the bank, it’s just I’m getting really disheartened by seeing it get smaller and smaller as these big expenses come up.

Oh well. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Poor fellow’s not at all happy.
